Again from Lukes blog : Quote: Could Niedermayer's return help the Canes? When Bob McKenzie speculates that the Ducks will move a defenseman to make room for Scott Niedermayer, it bears some examination — particularly as it reflects on Carolina. McKenzie's theory is that with the Ducks desperate to clear cap space to add Niedermayer, they're basically going to have to give away a player (much as they put goalie Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers). I'm not sure the Canes would be interested in Mathieu Schneider at the price ($5.5 million this year and $5.7 million next year) or Sean O'Donnell, period (two years left at $1.25 million). But it's a whole different story with Francois Beauchemin at $1.65 million through next season. [More:] At that price, he's an extremely valuable asset. If Beauchemin goes on the block, the Canes won't be the only bidder and the price may be high. But how often do affordable, talented 27-year-old defensemen come on the market? (Not often.) He's the kind of puck-moving defenseman the Canes desperately need. Whether he'll be available or whether the Canes can meet the price is different issue. (Needless to say, Andrew Ladd is a Brian Burke-style player if the Canes are willing to part with him.)

There is a rumor on the Sens board of a possible trade involving Cole to the Sens....just a rumor, but thought I would share.

Really? I think of all the teams out there the Sens would be the last one I would want Cole to go to.... they have way to much talent already... we don't need to hand them some more... lol lol

I know...but I am curious as to why Cole's name keeps coming up in trade rumors with other teams.

I don't really know, it seems to happen every season... maybe because he is one of our few power forwards that doesn't have a no trade clause?? Plus you have to hand it to him.. when he's hot he's hot... mans got alot of talent... I would think that with all of his serious injury problems alot of teams would be a little leary of him.. but maybe not. Other than Cole that leaves Justin, Staal and Brindy(I think).. JR still seems to think that Staal is the "future" of the team and I don't think there is any way at all we would ever trade the Captain.... at the moment my poor JWill is in some kind of slump... so that kind of points everything back in Coles direction.

I think Brindy has a 'no-trade clause' but I am not 100% on this. I do think that the way the team has been playing lately something big will happen to shake things up.

I don't think you have any worries as far as our Captain is concerned, unless for some reason he decided he WANTED to leave, which I don't think is going to happen. I agree with you though... if we don't wake up and win a few in a row VERY soon I look for a shake up after the holidays..

Cole isn't going anywhere. His name pops up every other week and nothing comes of it. He's a power forward, he's good, and he's still got a long career ahead of him. It's obvious why he would be coveted.
But he is staying.
(If he doesn't, then I'm going on a rampage and becoming a fan of another team, along with the Canes.)

Yea, I said the same earlier.. his name seems to be the one of choice when the trade rumours start flying... besides I don't think ANYONE wants to see Mel on a rampage.... lol

Has anyone sent THAT message to Rutherford? If not do it fast!!!! I know a shake up is probably gonna happen - but that could be just benching someone for a few games - not neccesarily a trade. However, I am beginning to think that EVERY team wants Cole since it is always his name mentioned.

Cole's name is always mentioned because when it comes does to it, he's gonna be a b%&^# to sign when his contract is up. When you have a player who is going to be hard to sign you usually try to trade him and at least get something for him.
Only Rutherford doesn't appear to subscribe to this practice, and I wouldn't worry about it.
(Williams is more the type who hears "x number of years above league minimum" and says "where do I sign?" It's nice to have an easy one.)
