Yup he shook him, with force too! That was the best part of the entire game. Well, during warm ups, Ruu and Pitkanen skated in front of us together. Kate and I laughed and called it synchronized Finnish Ice Skating. LOL
Pretty bad when the highlights of the game is a fight that Sutter made an attempt at, and the Finnish Ice Skating duo.
I really hope JR does something if it isn't fixed. Their play is inexcusible. I hope like hell they had a practice to justify their play of the last two games.

I switched between this game and the Lightning game last night. Both were bad! And the way the Lightning have been playing, I don't think you can count Sunday's upcoming game as a test. As Lavi may be in the hot seat, I sure as heck hope that Melrose is.

Funny you say that about not counting Sunday's game as a test, I was thinking the same thing this afternoon. Two teams with two coach's in the hot seat, could be a very interesting game. Lol

As easy as it is to blame Lavi, it still ultimately is the team that has to take the biggest share of the burden. They get paid BIG money (even the lower levels new guys) to be on the ice working at what is actually nothing more than a game. Sure, we love to watch them, but in the business sense, the only ones making a profit are the owners. The vendors are getting paid so much an hour and they're expected to prepare food and sell it. Why should it be any different for a sports team. The customers (sponsers, fans, etc) pay to have a game. By thunder, they should get one. Sure, some of the blame no doubt lies with Lavi. His job is to motivate these guys and use a strategy to win games. Maybe the strategy is old and the opposing team has figured out how to work around it and if that's the case, he needs to either change the strategy or be replaced. But whether the strategy or motivation is given out, it's still up to the team to put forth the best product they can on the ice. People pay good money to see the game. Sponsers pay good money to have their logos on the ice. These guys are being paid and paid well to play like their jobs depend on it, because it should. Don't know if I made any sense in that ramble... just had to get it out of my system

No it makes perfect sense Khabi and I hope you don't think I'm blaming Lavi for what's happening because I'm not. Unfortunately I feel like he will ultimately be made the scapegoat for what is happening if it doesn't reverse itself soon. Your right WE as fans and also the sponsors deserve a better showing of effort on the ice than we/they have been getting. Apparently Timmy Gleason agrees... great article! Timmy tells it like it is.
Submitted by ldecock on 11/13/2008 - 14:29 Tags: Talking Points | Hurricanes | Tim Gleason Tim Gleason’s brow was still streaming sweat, with no signs of stopping, when he sat down at his locker after a long, tough practice Thursday.
“That’s what happens when you suck,” the Hurricanes defenseman said. “Go ahead and write that down.”
Still, that’s not what had him steaming — it was the consecutive home losses to Atlanta (5-2 on Sunday) and Washington (5-1 on Wednesday).
Although Gleason may not wear a letter for this team, he’s still part of the leadership group in the dressing room, and he had plenty to say about the team’s plight Thursday — plenty:
“Starting from myself, I was terrible,” Gleason said. “As a group, we have the character, we have the team in this locker room. There’s no excuses. We have none. We have pretty much a healthy lineup. We didn’t come prepared to play. That was a big game for us, a divisional game. I made a stupid play right off the bat and that hurt us. I know I have to be better.
“We have a lot of leaders in this room and we have to start leading. We have the guys to do it and it starts with me and I have no problem doing that. We do the talk, we’ve got to do the walk, pretty much. We have the guys in this room. We have the talent, we have guys that will work hard, we have the grinders, we have the players, we have the goaltending, we have the defense, the forwards.
“This team is built around a character type of atmosphere and environment. All 23 of us every day come to the rink. We’re all buddies in this room. There’s no excuses. We have the guys to do it. We have the determination in this room. There’s no excuse not to come out with two points. We went through a hard workout today which was well deserved because we stunk yesterday and we stunk (against) Atlanta.
“I could talk to you all night, all day about this, but we’ve got a chance to get two points tomorrow night and get things back rolling on a positive note and get a few wins under our belt.”
The Canes were still in the Eastern Conference’s top eight Thursday morning — just barely — but they’re on pace for 92 points, the same number that wasn’t good enough to get them into the playoffs last season.
And don’t think they don’t remember that.
“This is exactly what happened last year,” Gleason said. “We started off with a pretty good start and we stunk it up in November and December, and that’s what killed us in April. We don’t want to do that. There are signs of that coming right now and we’ve had a few games where we’ve kind of (given) away the points.
“It starts with myself and goes on up. I take all the blame in the world, especially for yesterday’s game. As a group, we have to contribute. Everybody has their own job to do and if we stick to our own jobs and be consistent in our own jobs, we’re going to be a heck of a team. There’s no reason for any changes around here because it’s a solid group. I’ve never been around a more solid group than this group.
“We have the guys in place, from the coaching staff on down. This is a tight-knit group and there are no excuses why we can’t move forward in a positive way, in a positive manner, and get the two points every night.”

And can I just say that when they started talking about the trade that brought JWill to Carolina, and Justin said it was the greatest thing that ever happened to him, I really wanted to hug him. AAAWWW! I'm so glad that he flourished with the Canes because Ken Hitchcock would've ruined him. I miss him but I'm happy for him. Is there any way possible to be able to hear that interview? I hate that I miss so much. I still have the game recorded, and I'll see about transfering it to my laptop. If I can do that, I'll see if I can pull the audio track and cut it down like an interview.

No, Jwills, you're right in the fact that Lavi deserves some of the blame too. He is part of the team, even if he is the coach. He's the one that has to set them on fire and make them want that victory. they're all a unit, from the coach down the line. They all take blame for falling apart like that. They're a team. What I was getting tired of reading on the big Canes board was that everyone wanted Lavi replaced or blamed him and that isn't really fair. It's one of the big reasons I prefer this board. It's more... sensible? And thanks for posting that article with Timmy. He's got that mindset too and I'm really glad to see it. What's that saying... the only change you can make to a person is to yourself? I'm really hoping that this was the catalyst to get the guys to bear down and be that spectacular team we know they are

I think honestly the coaches get far more of the blame than they deserve. If anyone deserves blame, it's the "leadership" on the team. Lavi ends up ultimately responsible, but the chain of command hasn't kept its end of the bargain either.
Yeah, Brindy, Eric, and Ray, I'm lookin at you. If y'all can't do your job, give the letters to someone who will.

Maybe we just need to let Timmay and Brando lead the team!! I've been saying they should put an A on Timmy's chest since mid-way last season but I can't get behind putting one on Brando. LOL Let the kid do his thing but don't put him in charge of anything just yet....that would skeer me!
