Funny how when the silly coach finally takes Staal of the wing and puts him back at center (*where he plays by the way you silly coach*) he scores four goals.. now that was rocket science huh? LOL

Sad news for the Staals. Thoughts and prayers are with the family.
HALIFAX – According to the Canadian agency reports, Team Canada’s four-goal scorer Eric Staal has left Team Canada on Tuesday after the death of his grandfather.
The 23-year-old travelled back to Ontario and will attend the funeral on Wednesday. Staal will miss the quarterfinal match-up against Norway the same day but is expected to return for the possible semi-final game on Friday in Quebec City.
Canada added Sam Gagner as a replacement player. Gagner was practicing with the team before but hasn’t been registered until today and will play his first World Championship game tomorrow. The 18-year-old was the number six draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers last year and had 49 scoring points in his rookie season.

Oh that is such sad news. Thoughts and prayers to the entire family. A little surprised to see Jordan will play tonight and they fly out for the services.

THE CANADIAN PRESS
HALIFAX -- Eric Staal has left the Canadian team at the IIHF World Hockey Championship after the death of his grandfather.
He travelled back to Thunder Bay, Ont., today and will attend the funeral Wednesday.
Staal will miss Wednesday's quarter-final game against Norway but will rejoin the team in Quebec City for the semifinals if it advances.
Teenager Sam Gagner will dress in his place against the Norwegians.
He is Canada's extra forward at this tournament and has watched the first six games from the press box.
Staal won gold at last year's world championship and had four goals and seven points in six games here.
Eric's younger brother, Jordan Staal, skated in Philadelphia Tuesday morning where his Pittsburgh Penguins are preparing for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final. Early indications are that the Penguins forward will play in Tuesday's game and fly out to Thunder Bay Wednesday morning to attend the funeral before returning to the team the same night.
The Penguins hold a 2-0 series lead over the Flyers heading into Game 3 Tuesday.

When it comes to hockey playoffs.....family is second I guess.
I am happy for Gagner but it sucks the way that it happened.

Or maybe it will inspire him.....Maybe his grandfather was such a huge supporter of his(well all the brothers) that he will want to play really well in his grandfather's memory.
Or maybe I am a really sappy sentilmentalist.

Let me just say Mark Recchi is awesome!
Quote: When Mark Recchi, Staal's former teammate in Pittsburgh, learned of Staal's loss, he offered to help charter a plane that would allow Staal to be with his family without missing playoff action. Staal, 19, lived with Recchi when the veteran forward was still with the Penguins. After Recchi was traded to Atlanta this season, Staal continued to live in a guesthouse on Recchi's property
