MINE!!!!! Yes, Lyle and I are finally going to tie the knot! He asked me to marry him last week, but we finally told my parents last night since we were going over there for dinner! Originally we were thinking getting married next May, but as my dad said "Why wait so long?" Lyle and I have been together for 3 1/2 years and have been living together for 3 of those year. So, I asked Lyle if he was serious about getting married in October of this year (as I caught part of his and my dad's conversation) and he said "sure, why not?" Hopefully within this next week we can secure a reception site for October and go from there! I plan on making as much as the decorations as possible (I have the crafty gene in my family) and will be trying to cut cost as much as possible since we are also getting ready to move in to a bigger house which means more money for rent. We can definitely pull together a wedding in 4 months it will be just a hairy 4 months (including moving in July). Check this out for the cake idea: bottom layer: house divided with Auburn (him) and Wisconsin (me) middle layer: houses coming together and uniting with...drum roll please........Carolina Hurricanes top layer: male and female hikers (not the plastic bride and groom) in front of a tent to represent our passion of hiking and camping!!! Cool, huh? ? So, if any of you know how I can cut some costs, that would be very helpful! I am thinking about calling the Tucker House to see what their specifics would be for the reception. I have someone that can probably make the cake. Might have someone that can do the food. Still looking for a photographer (I do not want anything too fancy) and a DJ. Oh man!!!! I may have to roll this thing into high gear!!!!! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to post them here or pm me!!! Susan

Susan that cake idea is awesome!! I'm so excited for you! ;D We got married in FL so I don't know any DJ's or anything around here but we ordered our invitations from one of the many places online and they weren't badly priced at all. For favors, we did votive candles and I tied them myself in tulle and we printed labels for them on the computer ourselves so that helps save money. Hope that little bit can help you some! Congrats again!!

And there's actually an amazing amount of hockey wedding stuff online. (Considering that you wouldn't think there'd be anything.)
I'd recommend spending some time browsing the wedding section at Michael's to get ideas for the ceremony, favors, etc.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For suggestions: (and since I live in Florida) I have had a few friends do this too, you can always do a very private wedding the have a big reception. Thats what I would like to do and since I like the water, a beach, lake, on a dock, or even a boat is my idea of what I want.

Susan, believe it or not they are now carrying rather nice wedding stuff at Wal Mart for of course the low Wal Mart price!! LOL... you can also order personalized M&M's on line which are cool and can be wrapped in tulle and tied with bows by you. You can order fresh lavender on line cheaply and do the same.... I also recommend buying those individual Kodak wedding disposable cameras that are very cheap and putting one on each table at your reception letting the guests know to use them and snap away all evening, some of the best pictures we have from our "day" were random shots taken by guests, it can be hysterical what they manage to capture!!!!

Susan, have you checked that beautiful spot over in Umstead Park yet? It's a place that I've been looking into for a possible offseason board gathering, 'cause it'll fit a good amount of people, it has two seperate open-oven type fireplaces where you can cook if you want to & they're made of stone, it's a gorgeous LARGE tiered wooden deck & half is open to the skies & the other half is roofed & has picnic tables. The only problem that I can see is the fact that it would be very risky for something formal like a wedding reception, as half of it IS out from under the roofing, & it would absolutely suck if it were to rain on yours & Lyle's special day. If you don't know where it is, we can always meet up somewhere & I'll take you there myself so you don't get lost, LOL! Let me know.

Susan, that cake sounds awesome! Wish I could help with the wedding tips, buuuut since I have never been married, that would probably be a mistake. I do look forward to hearing how the planning is going though!
Dee, we should definitely have a board gathering I NEED to be around Canaics again! LOL

Thank you all for the information!!! After a huge panic attack I have been having for the last 24 hours, we have decided to have the wedding in April 2008. WHEW!!!!!!!!! This is probably better since we are going to be moving in July and will have all the expenses with that as well. Still in the process of looking for a reception site, but at least now I have a little more room to wiggle around with!!!

And it'll give you more time for cost-cutting stuff that might have been tough to pull off by October.
But try to hold off until July in setting a date so that you can coordinate with the Canes schedule. ;D

Well you know I had that in the back of my head!!! Can't miss the last few home games this coming season even though we will be in the playoffs! We are thinking about doing it the 2nd or 3rd Sat in April, so hopefully that will not be problem with the reg season. Plus, my parents already reminded me of that!

Well, when you said you were thinking about October, my first thought was, "But what if we start playing at home early, like we did last year?" =.)
