Welcome to your 2010-2011 Carolina Hurricanes season ladies!! IT'S HEREEEEEEEE! It's only preseason I know but I couldn't be more ready or excited even though we can't actually watch these games. Here is the "potential" lineup for tommorow nights game: LaRose – Skinner – Dwyer Bowman – Nash – Ruutu O’Sullivan – Dalpe – Kostopoulos Boychuk – Matsumoto – Samson Gleason – Sanguinetti McBain – Babchuk Borer – Harrison Ward Pogge Anyone that may be noting the "absence" of Cole's name in that lineup according to the last tweet I got from Ice Chip.. he is being held out as a precaution due to a "minor injury".. LOL.. and away we go! Puck drops at 7:00 pm. LET'S GO CANES!

I am SO ready for this!!! Game Day bags and stuff have been cleaned out and prepared for the new season!
The 2 days of Camp I made it to, I'll have to say I was quite impressed with Sanguinetti, Skinner and Dalpe. Babs seems to have matured as a player and since we're apparently stuck with him, I hope to see him prove he belongs. He was strong on the puck and actually had some physicality to his play on the first day. Granted, he still couldn't hit the net with that shot. haha.
Erik's injury better be very minor and we're just being overly cautious. In Paul's blog on the CH site says he could be in the lineup Thursday in Nashville.

Um..Sept 6? LOL
But yeah...bring it on! Tomorrow is a GAME DAY. Finally! It's going to feel so good to put on a jersey for the first time since April 10.
I second W's comment about being impressed with Sanguinetti, Skinner, and Dalpe. Skinner's been skating with Chad and Erik and that trio will be fun to watch. I hope we're being overly cautious holding Erik out...apparently he was at practice this morning too, so it sounds minor. The skate relay between him and Staaly yesterday was so pretty...I want good things for Erik this year. He deserves it.
Babs at the very least has seemingly learned how to play defense so that's a step in the right direction. haha I'm still hoping that somehow he magically goes away but it is what it is.
It sounds kind of cheesy, but you can feel the excitement in the air when you're watching the guys skate. The vets are hungry, the kids are hungry...it's nice.

Well I tried to watch the video feed but the damn thing was choppy and kept freezing up. I decided to just give up after the Panthers scored their third goal in the first period..lol.. I don't know how the rest of the game went but the little bit I watched was scary bad. I was a little surprised to see Cam look so rusty and I hope someone can tell me he got better as the game went on. Seeing a bunch of the Panthers rookies undress our rookies was not how I wanted to start the season.

Here's my opinion....and fwiw, I was not at full attention during the game.
The kids were definitely nervous. Skinner looked like he was ready to puke during warmups. There were definitely positives and negatives to come for that game. I don't think Cam was all that rusty but was overcompensating for a very young defense in front of him. Everything I've seen through Camp Brindy and Training Camp practices, Cam has been ON.
Babchuk, did absolutely nothing to change my mind about him in the game last night. I'm still done with him.
Boychuk better step up his game if he wants to make this squad. Right now, his butt his headed back to Charlotte, and fast.
Not impressed by Nash at all last night. Hoping it was just 1st game jitters.
Players who were impressive last night (not counting the Vets because we expect it of them):
O'Sullivan - by far THE best player on the ice last night. He sees the ice incredibly and has very quick hands. He was finding those passing lanes almost before they were open. I would love to see what he can do on Staal's line as a winger.
Bowman - I think he's ready for the big leagues and wins a spot over Boychuk in a heartbeat.
Dalpe - he might need some AHL time but not much. Kid has speed and impressive hands
Sanguinetti - very hard to guage our defense last night given that Timmy was not on his game and Babs was Babs but Bobby had some solid defensive plays and kid can skate. I don't think I've ever seen someone skate as beautifully and effortlessly as he in recent history. His stride and the way he flows honestly reminds me of a young Mike Modano but on defense
Not overly impressive but way better than the alternative - Samson. Kid has some bite to him and hustles like Chad & Tuomo hustle. I would like to see him be a #1 callup since in my head Dwyer is staying put in Raleigh.
All JMO of course.

Thanks for all the insight DG. After everything poor Skinner went through yesterday I would have given him a pass either way. Big, big day for a kid his age. I know I was only watching the game on a VERY crappy video feed but it just seemed to me like the first three goals I saw Cam give up should have been stoppable with a goalie of his calibur regardless of the defense, especially with the glowing reports I had heard from others about his camp performance. I am far from pushing the panic button on Cameron though. With the next three games being back to back I have no doubt only the strong will survive! LOL

I don't give Cam a complete pass because he was fighting it a little but I really think he was overcompensating when he didn't need to be. I looked at it as he was as nervous about the kids as the kids were themselves. He settled in and played his game after the damage was done.
Also, only one of those 3 I would have put on Cam completely. Babchuk was completely undressed and made to look a fool by the big rookie from Florida. On another, Jay Harrison, our supposed big saviour of help to Tim when it comes to defensive defenseman, looked like a deer in the headlights when a rebound was laying at his feet begging to be cleared from the crease.
The 4th goal, the one when Pogge was in net, from what I remember was shot from an angle and the shooter wouldn't have even had the chance if Tim hadn't been going for the big hit instead of playing the puck. So I yelled at Timmy for that one.
I'm certainly not hitting the panic button at all, especially given that this was many of those kids first shot on the big boy ice. We do have to look at the game for what it was though - a way to weed out the kids in camp and to do that we have to pay attention to how they respond in the high pressure situations. I'm anxious to see the other kids out there for comparison's sake.
All told, I still stand by my observations. I would love to see Sanguinetti get a shot at a roster slot but that ridiculous one-way contract we gave Jay Harrison might impede that. I do think Jay will be the 7th D but would we really, two seasons in a row, send a player down to the A and pay him top dollar there because we were too stupid to sign him to a two-way regardless of waiver status?
I still want Babs to be traded to open up that d spot but after watching that game last night, nobody is going to want him. A big booming shot from the point will only take you so far if you let the other team score as many goals (or more) as you net.
*edited because there's a huge difference between "dear" and "deer" and while Jay seems nice, he scares me too much to be referred to as "dear".

I was right next to W and from our conversations, I know we pretty much agree but I'll throw my 2 cents in.
The kids were absolutely nervous, which is to be expected. Cam looked decent I thought. Not as sharp as he's been in camp, but he didn't have much to work with (especially those first 6 minutes).
I think Skinner was ok. He got pushed around a little, but was definitely trying to make things happen towards the end of the game.
Babchuk - I'm just hoping he somehow disappears. Horrible. Please get off my team, thank you.
Couldn't agree more about Boychuk. He hasn't been all that impressive in camp and wasn't last night. I feel like he and Drayson were fairly close in the pecking order at the end of last year. To me, it looks like Drayson wants it and is ready. I don't see that from Zach.
Wasn't impressed by Nash either. Didn't really notice Matsumoto at all.
O'Sullivan - ditto to what W said. Absolutely the best player and I want to see what he can do with Eric.
Dalpe - impresses me. He's fast and works quite hard.
Sanguinetti - beautiful skater...he had some solid plays on a dismal night for the D.
Ditto on Samson too. I like his fight. He was the only one I noticed on our "4th" line last night.
