Taking nothing away from AO on the ice, as he is unquestionably a great hockey player, BUT I still don't like him much. He's grown up quite a bit in his 3 years as an NHLer though, and I have been impressed with his leadership of the Caps this season. He might be the only "current" superstar, but we'd be silly to forget the likes of Fedorov, Kolzig and Huet up there.
All that said, I still don't want them to win. It's not because I think they took our spot, because they earned their spot in the playoffs, but because I've never liked the Caps. No reason to start now.
Risking throwing this thread off topic, but since it was brought up here....I think it's silly that so many people think they can only like AO OR Crosby and not both, or dislike both for that matter. Personally I like Sidney Crosby, but my feelings toward him affect my feelings about AO in no way shape or form. I hated Crosby his rookie year, but then I realized that I was letting the media's Crosby lovefest affect how I felt and that wasn't fair. Not to mention he was a HUGE whiner his rookie year. I think that he's grown so much since then and he too is unquestionably a wonderful hockey player.
No offense to you Mel, but my opinion on Sid's personality differs. IMO, what many people consider a lack of personality, is simply because his personality isn't as "in your face" big as some. Because of my love for Darryl Sydor, I've watched as many Penguins features, interviews and specials as I have Canes and Stars in this past year. Crosby has been so coached by PR people that he just doesn't let what I think is the real him shine through in interviews. Being the "face of the NHL" until this season (I think it's definitely been taken over by Malkin & AO) he has been worried about making the wrong move. There are a few interviews out there though where you get a glimpse of what he's really like away from the spotlight. Personally, I can't blame him for that since his only fault in making that happen was being a great hockey player. Bettman & Co. are the ones who decided to constantly shove him in our faces as "The Next One".
Of course, this is all JMHO.
