* starts wiping the drool of the keyboard *
We all know that the one least impressed with Brindy's season last year was Brindy himself....I am looking for him to be back to his old - schmexy ;-) - self this season!!

Turnie, do you also notice that Rod's getting a little...thinner...in his face lately?? I started noticing his thinning back when he won his second Selke a couple of years back. His jacket didn't seem to fit him like it did the year before.

Yes I did....what I actually noticed was his nose looked bigger. I know he broke it again last year but I found that from the beginning of training camp to now it looks bigger again. I hope there is no significant reason for it and that maybe he is working out a bit more.

Well he isn't "Captain Canes" anymore, but congrats to Roddy on this honor. After everything he has gone through this season it would be a perfect ending IMO if he could win this!
Quote: According to Luke DeCock of the N&O, in a story posted at CanesNow this afternoon, veteran center and long-time and now former Captain of the Carolina Hurricanes, Rod Brind`Amour has been selected by the local chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association as Carolina's nominee for the NHL Masterton Trophy.
This is the third time Brind`Amour has been nominated for the Masterton, though he has yet to be selected as the NHL's recipient. He received the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's top defensive forward in both 2005-06 and 2006-07.
As described at NHL.com, the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
Last year, the Masterton was awarded to Jason Blake, of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2010 NHL Award ceremony will be in Las Vegas in June.
Congratulations to Brind`Amour on this recognition for his dedication and perseverance.

I am not so confident that he will win it this year either - if I am not mistaken this award goes to someone who has also battled something outside of hockey - health problems, family crisis etc. The Leafs nominee is Gustaffson(?) who has battled a slight heart condition this season.

Turnie, that's what it has turned into but it's not what the award was about and meant to honor when it first came to be. My guess is Monster will win it too.

His heart goes out of rhythm and races - some arrhythmias(?) slow the heart down - it has responded to medication but he has had to have two cardiac conversions this year - basically they shocked his heart back into rhythm.
